Hall of Games

The opening ceremony of Hall of Games, located on 2M floor of Youth Square, was held on 21 September 2011, and it had been open for public since then. Mr. Eric Kot and Mr. Tony Wong, CEO of Home Affairs Bureau, presented the opening ceremony.

Games and toys accompany everyone’s growth. Toys is an important reflection of the current social and cultural environment of different times. In the 50s and 60s, children created toys in spite of the rare resources, such as hopscotch and rope skipping which are still popular nowadays. In the 70s and 80s, with Hong Kong’s industry take-off citizens had a greater purchasing power, together with the effect of widespread TVs, plastic and iron toys came to the stage. Since the 90s, electronic games became extremely popular and the players enlarged to a wider age range.

Toys are not only a mirror of cultural and economic situations in different periods, but also a reflection of the speed of cultural development. To deepen youths’ understanding towards game culture’s development, Hall of Games would hold the long-term exhibition of typical toys of different periods. Exhibition has been finished in 2013.
