To promote art and cultural exchange among regional youth, Youth Square collaborates with Tung Wah Groups of Hospital Tuen Mun Integrated Service Centre to host the “Street Culture Festival 2018” with a series of street culture elements including Street Dance, Graffiti, DJ, etc. The festival aims at connecting the youth from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Singapore to demonstrate – “Art without boundaries”. Youth are encouraged to widen their horizons, establish their confidence, as well as to unleash their infinite potential through the workshops with professional tutors.

Dance Workshop

Various Street Dance tutors all over the world will gather at Youth Square and exchange through their common language – Dance moves. The local dancers could learn more about different dances and dancing cultures, which help the youth to widen their horizon and build up an integrated world!

 

Class A: Hip Hop

Date: 16 Aug 2018 (Thu)

Time: 16:00–18:00

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Matt Chen (Taiwan) – Professional dancer with abundant teaching and performing experience, organizer of Hip Hop International Taiwan, President of Taiwan Kinetic Art Association. He will share the technique of locking and body balance.

 

Class B: Urban Choreography

Date: 16 Aug 2018 (Thu)

Time: 19:30–21:30

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Ronnie (Singapore) – Experienced urban choreographer and dancer from Singapore famous dance studio O School will share the technique of Urban Choreography.

 

Class C: Popping

Date: 17 Aug 2018 (Fri)

Time: 14:00–16:00

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Nao (Japan) – With over 22 years of street dance experience and experienced in battle will share the skills in Popping Battle and Freestyle.

 

Class D: Vogue

Date:  17 Aug 2017 (Fri)

Time: 16:00–18:00

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Mira (Macau) – Well trained at New York, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Taiwan dance schools. She will share the skills of Vogue such as hands, spin, dips and duckwalk etc. and also the unique culture behind.

 

Class E: Popping

Date: 17 Aug 2018 (Fri)

Time: 19:30–21:30

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Popping Lok (Hong Kong) – Over 16 years of dance experience, and represented Hong Kong to take part in competitions all over the world. He will share the Popping technique with Swag elements.

 

Music Workshop

Local elites share different street music cultures through the workshops, including Beatbox and DJ. Participants can not only experience basic skills, but also integrate personal features to create their own street music!

 

Class FDJ

Date: 16 Aug 2018 (Thu)

Time: 20:00–22:00

Venue: Music Studio, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: DJ K.I.R (Hong Kong) – Local new Battle DJ. He will share different kinds of music such as Hip Hop, Trap, Dupstep, Funk, Soul, Disco, House, etc. in street culture, and the music mixing skills on the spot.

 

Class GBeatbox

Date: 17 Aug 2018 (Fri)

Time: 20:00–22:00

Venue: Music Studio, 6/F, Youth Square

Tutor: HeartGrey (Hong Kong) – First Chinese beatboxer to be recognized by the international beatbox scene. He will share the Beatbox skills such as the way to imitate the sound of drums and beats.

 

Street Culture Workshop

Experienced local Graffiti artist will guide you to unleash your creativity with a spray can.

 

Class H1Graffiti

Date: 15 Aug 2018 (Wed)

Time: 14:00–16:00

Venue: Venue: Y Platform (Zone E), 1/F, Youth Square

Tutor: Uncle (Hong Kong) – Over 18 years’ experience of creating graffiti. He will share the basic skills of graffiti and participants can use spray can to experience graffiti on their own.

 

Class H2Graffiti

Time: 14:00–16:00

Dancing Life Dance Competition 2018 & Dance For High– Asia's Youth Street Dance Competition, Hong Kong Preliminary 2018

Dancing Life Dance Competition 2018

Registration fee: HK$100 / team

Qualifications: children and young people aged 6-24 and love street dance

Prize: Champion HK$3,000 cash, First runner-up HK$2,000 cash, Second runner-up $1,000 cash

Judging: Popping Lok (Hong Kong), Matt C. (Taiwan), Mira (Macau), Nao (Japan), Xue Hui (Singapore)

Quota: 15 teams*

Competition format:

  • 2 - 10 people per team
  • In the form of line dance, each team arranges dance within 3 minutes, and need to use street dance as major dance type.

Deadline for registration: 20 Jul, 2018 (Fri)

 

*If there are more than 15 teams to register, each team must send their dance video to tmisc.dance@gmail.com before 18:00 on 23 Jul, 2018 (Mon). Hong Kong teachers will select the top 15 teams to enter the finale.

 

Dance For High Asia, Hong Kong Preliminary 2018

Registration fee: HK$50 / person

Qualifications: Dancers born after 1997.01.01

Prize: Champion will represent Hong Kong to attend the Dance For High Asian Final 2018 with free round-trip flight ticket and two-day accommodation in Taiwan, First runner-up HK$1,500 cash, Second runner-up HK$800 cash

Judging: Popping Lok (Hong Kong), Milk Tea (Taiwan), Mira (Macau), Nao (Japan), Xue Hui (Singapore)

Competition format:

  • 1 on 1 All Style Battle
  • Pre-selection: Each person will have one minute dance time in open audition. Judges will select the top 16 to enter the next round
  • TOP16-TOP8: 1 on 1 battle, 1 round / person
  • TOP4: 1 on 1 battle, 2 rounds / person
  • Final: 1 on 1 battle, 3 rounds / person

Deadline for registration: 23 Jul, 2018 (Mon)

  • Method 1: Each team must submit the completed registration form and health statement* together with the registration fee in person, or send the cheque to the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Tuen Mun Service Centre. Payment by cheque should be made payable to “Tung Wah Group of Hospitals”. Mailing address: 2/F, Tseng Choi Street Government Services Complex, Tseng Choi Street 27, Tuen Mun, please state “Dance of Life in Street Dance Competition 2018 Attn: Mr. Kay” on the envelope.
