To celebrate the 20thAnniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, Youth Square, Shanghai Concert Hall are now started to recruit youth who are interested in A-Cappella to join the show of Hong Kong and Shanghai A-Cappella Exchange Project on 7-9th September 2017. It aims to connect youth with the arts of music, and to explore every possibility of their potential. Our youth performer will act as an ambassador to promote the new generation as well as the trend of music.

 

It’s going to be an exciting performance showcasing talents in A-Cappella. Participant will be trained by professional choreographers and will have chance to perform A-Cappella on stage.

Interview requirements
1) Participants are required to sing a song with no Accompaniment, the song could be optional.
2) Sing a provided song by the General Assembly, test the ability of singing
3) Testing scale and range of participants.

 

* Priority will be given to youth aged between 15 and 29, and who has been trained in A-Cappella

* All performances will be voluntary

Vocal Training and Performance:

Professional will provide training to all youth member. Successful participants should attend the training from 11th August to 3rd September, and a performance will be held on 7-9th September.

Mentor Introduction:

Ms. Viola Yuen

 

An active composer, arranger, conductor, and an A Cappella singer who is enthusiastic about the application of human voices in various musical compositions. Her music displayed a unique style, originality and profound emotion.

 

Currently she is an adjunct lecturer of The Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts and the Bachelor of Music (Honours) programme of Kingston University (UK), Conductor of the choir of Hong Kong Music Institute, Conductor of Hang Seng Management College Sinfonietta, the Music Director of the Sregnis Singer, the first contemporary A Cappella group in Hong Kong, and a Membership Secretary of Hong Kong Composers’ Guild.. Since 1990, she has been appointed as a conductor of the Diocesan Choir - Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.

 

Graduated from Hong Kong Baptist College and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she is now a candidate for Doctoral Degree of Music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong Graduate School. Viola is a holder of Lions Joseph Koo Music Foundation Scholarship in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and also the The Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Scholarships in 2014. Her works have been featured at the International Rostrum of Composers, Asian Composers’ League, Hong Kong Musicarama, and International Handbell Symposium. Some of her works are published by the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild as well as the H’ing Publishing (HK). Besides compose serious music, she also actives in re-arranging A Cappella music for different singing groups. Over thirty of her re-arrangements have be performed in public.
